Designing the Perfect Beach Home Bath
Why did 30,000 HOUZZERS view this beach style bath?
It’s a great story! We were building this house for our client who was involved with returning the America’s Cup back to the US. Focusing on a secondary bathroom in a vacation house in Coronado wasn’t a top priority.
In order to keep the house moving forward, we suggested that we simply design and build an “all Carrara” bath….floors, walls, countertops. What is not to like?
Kazamm!
At first, we cracked up… Our best room, our best product was a 5 1/2 ft by 12 foot bath…nothing else that we’ve built came close to the popularity of the Americas Cup Bath.
Here’s the formula:
In Coronado, we are constrained by size therefore every square foot counts. Bathrooms should be 5 1/2 feet wide, length optional.
We like Kohler’s Ladena sinks. Simple rectangular; oh and the countertop subcontractor loves Ladena because it’s easy to fabricate the countertop around.
We typically specify Newport Brass for our fixtures; classic design, oil-rubbed bronze, matching towel bars.
We love framed mirrors, so in keeping with a simple, classic design, we bought a couple of Pottery Barn mirrors
We’re sure that you’ve been told,” Don’t put a window in a shower” We actually think that it’s a great idea. We selected a Milgard 4X 2 awning in vinyl and had our tile sub flash it.
Our favorite indoor door is a false louver solid core door. This one is 1 3/4 thick. Our client grew up in New Zealand so the standard U S 1 1/4 isn’t substantial enough.
